Mother’s Day has come and gone and you were loved and pampered, as you should be! Let’s keep it going by talking about the importance of the Mother of the wedding and our annual Mother of the Wedding dress sale!
Mothers are there for us to help us with our wedding planning, guide us through life’s journey, and be there to support us through all minor and major milestones. We wouldn’t be who we are without our mothers or mother figures in our lives. Mothers are one of the most important parts of the wedding day, not only in terms of moral support, but also held in tradition.
There are many traditions that come along with weddings whether it be in terms of speakers, order of procession, or dress. In terms of formality, the Mother of the Bride should be the most formally dressed after the bride. Next comes the Mother of the groom, and then the bridesmaids.
There are many forms of formal attire and one of them includes the type of fabric. For more formal weddings in a ballroom or upscale venue, the fabric is typically in a satin-type, like silk shantung, taffeta, or mikado. These fabrics typically have a light sheen to them which makes them very elegant, perfect for a black-tie wedding. We carry designers like Siri, and Teri Jon that fit this bill very well.
Venues that aren’t too formal or too casual can have beaded tulle or chiffon gowns like our Montage, or Jade dresses. Very versatile dresses that come in many colors, styles and necklines!
For a more casual affair, like a barn wedding or backyard wedding, or even on the beach typically calls for more casual fabrics. Flowy fabrics like chiffon are loose and airy and really catch the breeze. If it is an upscale barn, a crepe fabric is casual yet can be a little bit more fitted for a more formal venue. Velvet is also coming back in style!
Color is also another factor when thinking about your dress. Darker colors like navy and purples are classic and popular colors. They can be very slimming and coordinate well with many bridesmaid colors. Lighter colors are generally worn in the warmer months and are perfect for destination weddings and more pastel wedding palettes but can also be worn throughout the year depending on the wedding palette and venue. Black has made a comeback for black-tie weddings and is a formal choice that can be worn again to boot!
