If you’re in the midst of the wedding planning process, chances are you’re wondering how long it will take for your vision to come to life.
With the exception of menswear, when you shop for wedding attire (bridal gown, bridesmaids, mother of the wedding) each item is typically a special order. That means that the majority of dresses purchased at our store aren’t created until the designer receives your order with your specified size, color, and customizations from us. Hence the need to plan ahead!

During such an unprecedented year, we have been sure to keep in close contact with our designers to manage each order, and pay attention to their lead times so that we can have full transparency with our clients. Each designer runs on their own manufacturing schedule, but we have complied information from the labels we carry to make things a bit more convenient for you. Below is your go-to guide for when to purchase each facet of your wedding attire!
Bridal Gown
This is usually the first piece of wedding attire to be ordered, and there’s good reason for it! This dress is typically the most detailed, and requires the most time. Lead Time for Bridal Gowns: Up to 6 months*
When We Suggest You Purchase: At least 9-12 months in advance for special orders (custom size, color, etc.)
*Don’t forget about alterations! These can take up to 3 months depending on the work you’re having done, and your seamstresses work load.
Mother of the Wedding

Lead Time for Mother of the Wedding: 3-5 months*
When We Suggest You Purchase: 6 months in advance
*Again, you’ll want to make sure time is allotted for alterations. Most wedding party dresses require atleast a hem and strap lift.
Bridesmaids
It’s never too early to be thinking about Bridesmaid dresses, for a few reasons! Nailing down the color family can help define the other hues in your wedding palette, and it’s nice for your ‘maids to know what they’ll be spending early on in the process. When We Suggest You Purchase: 6 months in advance
*Again, you’ll want to make sure time is allotted for alterations. Most wedding party dresses require atleast a hem and strap lift.
Bridal Accessories (Veil, Jewelry, Headpiece)
This category is a sleeper! Not only do accessories completely customize your bridal look, but they are the few pieces you may actually be able to wear again and again. So, we want to make sure you love these special finishing touches.
Lead Time for Accessories: Up to 3 months (most of our veils have hand-sewn embroidery/beading/detail!)
When We Suggest You Purchase: At least 3 months in advance
Suit/Tuxedo
Now, time to pick what your other half will be wearing! If they choose to wear a Suit/Tux, we can help with that. We carry a variety of options that can be rented, or purchased through our store - and don’t forget, if you purchased your dress at MD your partner receives a free rental!
